R. John Davenport is the Director of Research Strategy in the Robert J. and Nancy D. Carney Institute for Brain Science at Brown University. A graduate of Williams College, John received his Ph.D. in
chemistry from the University of Oregon, where he developed and applied
innovative microscopy techniques to study the physical movement of enzymes.
Prior to coming to Brown, he was the associate editor of Science Magazine's Web site on aging
research. His driving ambition is to enable rigorous and meaningful research across disciplines and maximize its benefit to society. With a background in molecular biology and biophysics as well as science communication, Davenport has more than 15 years of experience and increasing responsibility in managing research strategy and operations of a major interdisciplinary academic research entity.
