Jasna Markovac was trained as a researcher in life science and received her PhD in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan Medical School. Following a postdoc at UCLA in cellular and molecular biology, Jasna returned to Michigan as faculty in pediatric neurology, and then moved on to another faculty position at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Jasna decided to use her scientific experience to pursue a career in scientific/medical publishing. After nearly 20 years in private sector, Jasna started an independent consulting business and also returned to academia in various capacities. She currently serves as Senior Advisor for Academic Publishing at Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan. She is an Associate Editor of Natural Sciences, the Founding Editor of FASEB BioAdvances, and guest editor of several journal special issues on topics related to careers beyond the bench as well as biomedical and medical education. Jasna is committed to finding more effective ways of fostering the broad-based dissemination of scholarship both within and outside of academia and to the professional development of young scientists.
