Thomas J. Carew received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside. For several years he was a member of the faculty of Columbia Medical School before moving to Yale, where he was the John M. Musser Professor of Psychology and a Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. He is a former Chair of the Department of Psychology at Yale, a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society, an elected Member of the Society for Experimental Psychology, an elected Fellow of the AAAS, an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a past Councilor of the Society for Neuroscience, and a past Chair of the Neuroscience Section of the AAAS. He is also the recipient of several awards, including a MERIT Award from the National Institute of Mental Health, and the Yale College Dylan Hixon Prize for excellence in teaching in the natural sciences. He is a member of numerous Editorial and Advisory Boards. Dr. Carew held an endowed chair at the University of California, Irvine, where he was a Bren Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior from 2000-2011. He then served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York Unuversity from 2011-2019. He currently a Silver Professor and Dean Emeritus in the Center for Neural Science at NYU. He served as President of the Society for Neuroscience in 2008-2009.
