Bio

Dr. Lubin is a neuroscientist specializing in epigenetics and memory. Her research focuses on understanding how transcriptional regulation in the nervous system affects cognition, particularly in aging and cognitive disorders like epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Lubin’s lab employs cutting-edge techniques like CRISPR gene editing, neurophysiology, and high-throughput sequencing to investigate epigenetic mechanisms such as histone methylation, DNA methylation, and non-coding RNAs, exploring their role in learning, memory, and neuroplasticity. She has also studied the NF-κB signaling pathway and its interaction with chromatin to determine how molecular changes influence gene expression. Dr. Lubin is also the Director of the NINDS Neuroscience Roadmap Scholars Program and leads the T32 Training Program in Cognition & Cognitive Disorders. As a testament to her commitment to training and mentorship, Dr. Lubin has received numerous awards including the UAB Graduate Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentorship in 2017, the 2022 Commission on the Status of Women Padma Award, in the category of Becky Trigg Outstanding UAB Faculty Member, 2020, UAB Heersink School of Medicine Dean’s Excellent Award for Diversity Enhancement, 2020, President’s Diversity Champion Award, and most recently she received the 2025 Heersink School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentorship. Moreover, Dr. Lubin holds the first faculty in the Department of Neurobiology appointed as Distinguished Professor, and the first to hold the Triton Endowed Chair Professorship in the School of Medicine at UAB.
