University of Maryland, College Park Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Program

College Park, MD
Program Description
The Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NACS) program is an interdepartmental, interdisciplinary training program leading to a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science. NACS accepts only full-time graduate students. The complexity and depth of the neuroscience and cognitive sciences require full-time study to successfully complete doctoral-level research. Students can earn a non-thesis or thesis master's degree en route to the Ph.D. degree.

Our program offers cutting-edge interdisciplinary graduate training in seven research focus areas: Cellular and Molecular; Cognition and Emotion; Computational Modeling and Theory; Development and Aging; Disorders and Treatment; Language and Speech; Sensory and Motor Systems. Within and across these focus areas, more than 130 faculty advisors lead internationally renowned research programs and mentor over 40 graduate students. Research activities are carried out in laboratories housed in 21 different departments and units across the university’s campus as well as at first-class neighboring research institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, Children's National Medical Center, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

NACS graduate students are encouraged to work across traditional disciplines and to pursue research projects that are bold and translational. Our community of students, faculty, and staff enjoys the congenial and collaborative environment and the many exciting opportunities offered by the program.
